NRC faces large cuts to services
Tuesday, 03 August 2010 11:37
Northern Refugee Centre (NRC) is facing a possible loss of around £500,000 from its budget. The organisation is principally affected by the cuts to the RIES (Refugee Integration & Employment Service) programme by the UK Border Agency, and also faces cuts from other national funding streams, including Department for Communities and Local Government.
The organisation has entered into a redundancy process for those staff affected. It is regrettable that these cuts will have a significant impact on services provided by NRC for refugees, asylum seekers and new migrants.Refugee Women's Development Project in wind-down phase
Friday, 30 July 2010 13:55
The Refugee Women’s Development Project (RWDP) at Northern Refugee Centre is in a wind-down phase. It is due to end late August / September 2010. Unfortunately we have not been able to secure funding to continue the work. We will continue to write funding bids and hopefully will be able to continue the work at a future date.NRC wishes to give tribute to the women volunteer workers, many of whom are seeking sanctuary themselves, who have supported the project and given their time, skills and expertise to it. They demonstrate the dignity, creativity and ability of refugee women.

They call for support for all failed asylum seekers with children, access to health care throughout an asylum seeker's time in the UK, and the granting of permission to work. The report looks at the experience of failed asylum seekers and calls for a more humane system.
