Carrot and Stick - Voluntary Returns to Zimbabwe

Tuesday, 03 November 2009 18:54

The UK Border Agency announced changes on 29th October to its voluntary returns package for Zimbabweans who have sought asylum in the UK. This 'carrot' has also been packed with the 'stick' of steps towards resuming removals to Zimbabwe.

Full details of the IOM help are available from a leaflet in the downloads section of the Advice | Immigration section of our website or from the IOM who have more detailed information on their website.

The Home Office first suspended forced removals to Zimbabwe in September 2006.  The Home Office argues that "the courts have found that not all Zimbabweans are in need of international protection". The UK Border Agency will be working over the next few months on steps to resume "enforced returns progressively as and when the political situation develops".
