Refugee Boy - Welcoming The World

Refugee Boy Welcoming the World

Alongside the production of Refugee Boy we, and our partners, have put together a programme of events and education projects. We want to bring people together, celebrate diversity and dispel some myths around refugees. Throughout its history Leeds has welcomed in people from around the world that have woven their stories into the fabric of the city. Welcoming the World celebrates the newest arrivals, who have come seeking sanctuary in Leeds. Here we share their stories, showcase their talents and enjoy the rich mix of cultures that they bring. Through this we are looking at all the things that we have in common, rich and diverse histories, love of good food and music, desire for safety for us and our families.

The programme includes two Open Days at the Playhouse, a debate event for you to put your questions to leading experts and opinion formers, and a schools and community programme with refugee artists.

We could not have done this without the generous support of our partners: Refugee Council; City Of Sanctuary; The Children’s Society (HEARTS service); City of Leeds School, SOLACE, Regional Asylum Activism.

Open Days 16 and 23 March 2013 11am – late

Come together at the Playhouse and join in the feast of cultural delights our City has to offer: food, live music, art, crafts and stories from different parts of the world.
