Sunday, 16 May 2010 10:03
The NRC Advice Service in South Yorkshire provides information to Refugees and Asylum Seekers which is:
- Independent
- Impartial
- Confidential
- Free
We give advice on wide range of issues affecting Refugees and Asylum Seekers, including:
- Support, welfare and benefits.
- Housing problems.
- Health Services.
- Immigration queries such as Travel Documents and Citizenship.
In particular we offer advice to individuals at the time of receiving their Home Office decision when they need to leave NASS support and move into mainstream services.
We do not do asylum casework or asylum appeals.
Our website provides information to support advisers and others in helping asylum seekers and refugees.

Drop-ins
The best way to get in contact with the advice service is to visit one of our drop-in sessions. For the details and timings of these, download the leaflet above or go to our Service Times page. We do not give appointments for the drop-ins, just turn up on the day. They are often busy and you may need to queue.
Women
We now run a 'Women Friendly' advice session for all women refugees and asylum seekers. The session is in Sheffield on Wednesdays from 9.30 - 12.00 in our offices in North Gallery, Castle Market, Exchange Street, Sheffield S1 2AJ.
The premises are wheelchair and buggy accessible by lift. Children are welcome and we have a selection of toys to keep them amused.

Telephone
We do not have the capacity to run a full-time telephone advice service, nor to provide language support for that service, however our advisers will answer advice based telephone queries when available.
If a member of our advice staff is not available, then our non-advice staff will not be able to help. You can leave a message and we will do our best to ring you back.
The advice line number is 0114 2729332.
If you cannot get through to us, Emergency NASS (asylum support) advice queries can be made also to the Refugee Council One-stop Shop in Leeds on 0113 386 2210.
Home Visits
For those who are unable to get into an appointment or drop-in due to illness or disability, we can exceptionally arrange an appointment at your home. Please ring us to make these arrangements
