REACT
Everyone's talking about refugees and asylum seekers. You can barely step into a newsagent, turn on the television, or go for a walk without someone else giving yet another opinion about them. But have you ever wanted to find out more about refugees and asylum seekers for yourself: to hear about what brought them to Britain and what their life is actually like here?
If so REACT might just be what you are looking for. REACT organises free sessions led by refugees and asylum seekers, in which they talk about their experiences and the issues that they face. These sessions can be designed to meet the needs of the audience, whether they are young children, employers or community groups. Sessions range in length from 30 minutes to a whole day, and can include elements such as:
- A refugee speaker talking about their experiences.
- Information about the asylum system and the rights that refugees and asylum seekers have.
- Exploring and discussing the situation in countries that refugees flee from.
- Cultural activities such as stories, games and art activities.
- Practical action planning, such as how to make your services more inclusive for refugees, or how to help refugees feel welcome in your community.
Please contact Helen on (0114) 2412783 if:
- You would be interested in arranging a free session, tailored to the needs of your group.
- You are a refugee or asylum seeker who feels you may be interested in talking about your experiences, and learning how you can lead REACT sessions.REACT is funded by the department of Communities and Local Government’s Connecting Communities Plus grant. http://www.communities.gov.uk
