There are opportunities to volunteer at each of the Women's Conversation Clubs in Sheffield. We encourage all women from the local communities to volunteer at a club - particularly refugee women with good levels of English. "What does volunteering involve?" - Chatting informally with women - Helping women learn to speak English - Taking part in group activities, including games and art and craft activities - Welcoming new women to the club - Helping to plan and deliver activities and trips "What will I get out of volunteering?" - Meet women from a wide variety of countries and cultures - Develop valuable skills - Make a real difference to the lives of refugee and asylum seeker women - Make a valuable contribution to your local community - Give your CV a great boost "How much time do I need to give up?" Each weekly Women's Conversation Club in Sheffield lasts between 1 1/2 to 2 hours. You will need to be able to commit to attending a club on a regular basis (although we recognise it may not be possible for all volunteers to commit to attending every week). "What training and support will I receive?" Volunteer Pack This contains information about the Women's Conversation Clubs, relevant policies and procedures, and tips on volunteering at a club. Taster session Attend the Women's Conversation Club for an informal introduction. Training session A three hour training session delivered by the Northern Refugee Centre which will provide information about asylum seekers and the asylum system, how Women's Conversation Clubs function, practical advice on how to support English language development, and information on policies and procedures at the clubs. On-site support Receive on-going, on-site support at the Women's Conversation Club from a staff member or experienced volunteer. Travel expenses and childcare All volunteers' travel expenses to and from Women's Conversation Clubs are reimbursed, and all volunteers are welcome to make use of the on-site creches.
